DP Training Session.07 with Kurt Biederwolf.
Last week, we had an opportunity to guest a very special person. I was trying to invite him to hold a session since the beginning of the club. Kurt Biederwolf is a long time DP user and chair of the Music Synthesis Department here at Berklee so I knew it would be a great session. And I was right. I think that everyone enjoyed his talk about one of the projects Kurt worked on in the past. He took us on the journey from the very beginning of the project, through all the stages, and up to the completion. He talked about his composition and technical tasks and how he approached them. Personally, I was very pleased to hear a lot of his music (yes, music - don't we all miss that sometimes).
We would like to thank Kurt greatly for an amazing two hours.
Check out the pictures on the bottom of this page.

In our next meeting we're going to have Ricardo Poza, HuiJae Chung, and Daniel Birczynski go over the new features of version 3.1
When: Thursday, November 14th @ 6PM
Where: Learning Center classroom

Version 3.1.1 is out
This is a maintenance update to version 3.1. It fixes a couple of small problems and from what I've been reading this version runs much smoother in general.
Also, the new MOTU Audio 24I/O is out. It has 24 analog inputs and outputs (TRS balanced/unbalanced), Word Clock I/O, and uses PCI-424 with CueMix.

Read our articles
For those who were not able to come to our last session, we wrote two articles. They mainly talk
about different hardware setups and possible options when choosing the right hardware for you. They present our own opinions.

Happy downloading!

We would like to thank Dave Roberts for the excellent presentation last night (check out the pictures on the bottom of this page). We hope to have him again as a guest in the future. For those who couldn't make it, we are going to right an article about the session. But for now here is the outline of the presentation.
Most of the time he talked about 2408mk3 - PCI-424 is very cool. A lot of I/O options and CueMix for near-zero latency monitoring
DP 3.1 will be out on Monday 9/30 as a download.
DP for OSX by the end of the year (according to Magic Dave). MOTU has been running DP on OSX for a year. It runs but not very well yet.
More details coming soon!
Daniel & HuiJae.

MOTU Hardware Presentation details.
This session is going to be a really good one. Here are the latest news.
It will be the first public demonstration of the 2408mk3 and until the product
ships, this will be the only chance to get a preview.
2408mk3 is a next-generation PCI audio interface. New features include96 kHz
analog and digital I/O, expansion up to 96 channels, DSP-driven mixing and monitoring, SMPTE and video synchronization and more. Out of all the new features,
one is probably the most important for all of us mixing entirely on computer. The PCI-424 card features CueMix DSP? provides near-zero monitoring latency.
MOTU will be also showing the Mackie Control and its integration with DP 3.1.
The 3.1 support is more advanced as it adds support for multiple units &
expansion. They plan to bring a baby Hui, too.
So, don't miss this one!

As Jon said after the clinic "We almost covered a half of the semester that I do with my students" we hope that we'll have a chance to see the second half sometime in the future.

- The website gets update. New layout and introduction of the Tips of the week
and Links.
- Next meeting is coming soon. We will talk more about some concepts that Matthew Davidson touched on last session including audio in DP.
Matthew's presentation was spectacular but we understand that for a lot of us some of the concepts were new. That's why we would like to go back a little bit and go over some basics so everyone is on the same page.
- On our Links site our goal is to gather interesting and useful web pages related not only to DP but also to audio technology, computers, and recording. If you come across an excelent source on the internet, let us know. This site will also give an opportunity for members to put links to their web pages.
